Therapy, learning, personal development, and spiritual awareness
Our qualified counsellors will guide you in meaningful interactions with our therapy horses, leading to healing and growth that is right for you. We are experienced in working with a wide variety of emotional and mental presentations and are also practiced In meditation and mindfulness techniques.
Therapy with Horses
Our two qualified counsellors are experienced in assisting clients with numerous situations such as trauma, depression, emotional regulation, addictions and anxiety.
Personal Development
Clients come with personal development aims such as dealing with indecision, lack of direction, unclear personal boundaries, and low self-confidence. We have specific equine-lead exercises and programs to bring you to a more fulfilling inner space.
Spiritual Awareness
Book an individual session or join our frequent workshops to experience the innate wisdom that horses and nature offer. Through equine observation, quietening the mind, self observation, and meditation you will enter a peaceful inner zone which you will be able to return to frequently.
How horses work with us
With our team of calm, sensitive horses we work empathetically within a dynamic of trust. We provide individual therapy sessions, both with and without horses, within a beautiful rural environment. We are Rainbow friendly and work within a Kaupapa Māori framework.
Our work complements standard therapy and learning practices but operates within each client’s zone of comfort around horses. The work doesn’t require previous experience with horses, and doesn’t involve horse riding.
As a team, your counsellor and horse will guide you to extend your edges of awareness within an environment of self-acceptance. This works in four ways:
1. Observation
By observing how horses interact with each other and their environment, we reflect on our own habitual behaviors and learn to regulate how we interact with others.
2. Empathy
Horses show deep empathy for people experiencing grief, loss, or sadness. Developing empathy for a horse teaches us how to be kind to ourselves and others.
3. Personal narrative
The horse mirrors and reflects not what we think we are, but what we hide from ourselves (what we really are). By working with horses we see how our thoughts and assumptions can be self-limiting, giving us choices for healthier narratives of who we are.
4. Shared being and spiritual connection
By living in true presence and present-moment awareness, horses invite us to renew our connection with nature to become truly grounded and at peace with ourselves.
