Practitioner Training

Certificates in Equine Assisted Learning, and Equine Assisted Therapy

For practitioner training within the fields of Equine Assisted Therapy and Learning we offer introductory certification courses in groups of up to four students. This 20-hour course can be done over two days at Earthhorse Aotearoa (Raglan), followed by written work and supervision. It is also possible to do the course on-line using Zoom and videos.

Horsemanship experience is essential but if this is lacking, or a refresher is needed, you may choose to engage in the "Learning the Language of Horses” 12-hour course.

Note that we do not teach people how to be therapists or life coaches. The requirement is to be already qualified as a therapist (counsellor, psychotherapist, psychologist, etc) or as a teacher, life-coach, social worker or leadership coach. What we do is show you how introducing the horse into your work can become transformative for you and your clients. Your existing qualifications and experience determine whether you will be certified in Equine Assisted Learning or Equine Assisted Therapy. Both are equally valuable and both approaches are taught together since there is considerable overlap.

Structure

The certificate course consists of 14 hours theory and practice, followed by 6 hours supervision.

Stage 1: 7 hours theory and demonstration

Stage 2: 7 hours theory and practice

Stage 3: 6 hours supervision (taken over a six month period)

Cost: $2500. If two or more people from the same whanau/family or practice wish to enrol together, they will be offered a generous discount. Please enquire.

Session times: We do not advertise specific dates for training, but when we have enough people interested we set a date that works for all. We take a maximum of four people at a time, so this is relatively easy to arrange.

We also teach the same course one-on-one in two-hour sessions over a number of weeks or months. (The cost remains the same)

To make an application: Make contact to express an interest, and we will respond with further information and an application form. Your application will be assessed according to current experience and qualifications both in the therapeutic/coaching space and with horses.

Professional Supervision

Ongoing supervision is essential for anyone working in therapy and learning fields. For equine assisted practitioners we offer confidential supervision over Zoom through discussion and the sharing of videos of practical work. We work with anyone who is already working in the field, regardless of where you did you training.
